How one state chapter raised funding by 300 percent

The History

The Arthritis Foundation, Florida Chapter works to reduce the impact of arthritis on the lives of 3.7 million adults and an estimated 16,000 children in Florida. The Arthritis Foundation leads the fight for the arthritis community, helping individuals

conquer everyday battles through life-changing information and resources, access to optimal care, advancements in science and community connections. One of The Patterson Foundation’s initiatives was focused on arthritis, in 2009 they partnered with the Arthritis Foundation Florida Chapter.

The Opportunity

The Patterson Foundation contracted with MagnifyGOOD to create awareness in the community while inspiring philanthropy. To do this we leveraged the annual arthritis event, the Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis.

The Solution

MagnifyGOOD conducted a series of webinars and one-on-one sessions to train AFFC staff and involved volunteers about the power of strategic communications. We leveraged social media and other online and offline assets to generate interest and support for the Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis. We also developed media partnerships and corporate opportunities, and ensured that the Arthritis Foundation team would have the capacity to continue the work in the future.

The GOOD

Our efforts helped create impressive results. The number of participants in the Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis increased from 3,997 in 2009 to 8,892 in 2012. The number of sponsors for Arthritis Foundation Florida Chapter events grew from just 42 in 2009 to 365 in 2012. In total, over the course of the partnership with The Patterson Foundation, AFFC has raised nearly $1.7 million.  MagnifyGOOD helped create a sustainable momentum that continues to grow and improve the lives of thousands of people living with arthritis.
